La Jolla Sunset

The sun was falling fast, so I tried to grab some sunset shots before I lost the light to get back up the rocks. Luckily, one of them ended up a keeper. The sunset was absolutely beautiful out here.

Out to the Bay

I took this at the very end of the north jetty of the Cape Cod Canal at Scusset Beach. This was the longest jetty I've walked out on, and with my large camera pack it felt a little precarious at times getting across a large gap or two. It was well worth it, though, to get a shot like this, looking out into the Cape Cod Bay as the sun set behind me.

Decks on the Falls

Empty Cave of the Winds decks early in the morning as the American Falls crash down on the rocks around them.

Little Falls

Water rushing down the Niagara River towards the American Falls flows over these small falls just upstream from the real thing.

Fading Tracks

This is a bit of a concept edit that I've been sitting on for a while trying to decide if I liked it enough to post, but here it is. I knew I wanted an edit like this, to take an idea I tried with a shot from way back in 08 at the Statue of Liberty dock station a little farther. Taking the color and trying to slowly desaturate it as it moves towards the vanishing point/horizon to create the impression of an abandoned subject fading into the haze of the past, being forgotten. I think I got there, but I'm not entirely confident that its as good as it could be.

Arlington Memorial Ampitheater

The Arlington Memorial Ampitheater is a beautiful piece of architecture. I didn't expect the scale of this to be quite as big as it was, and the stage area was especially impressive.

WWII Memorial at Night

The WWII Memorial might be my favorite memorial/monument on the Mall, and it is beautiful at night with the large fountain.

Two Skylines

The view of the NYC area from Liberty State Park is about as perfect as can be on a clear day, and I was excited that the weather was this good driving through. Jersey City's skyline provides a nice balance to the massive collection of skyscrapers in NYC from this point.

Empty Sky Memorial

Remembering a tragic day 19 years ago. The Empty Sky Memorial at Liberty State Park is a solemn and beautiful monument to that day.
